Thera Peds Partners is seeking a skilled and dedicated American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) to join our team for a full-time, school-based opportunity in Pulaski, Tennessee for the  school year.

If you're passionate about ensuring Deaf and Hard of Hearing students have meaningful access to classroom instruction, communication, and participation throughout their school day, this could be a great fit. You'll work collaboratively with students, teachers, special education teams, and related-service professionals, with support from both the school district and the Thera Peds team.

Position Details
  • Full-time:
    Approximately 38-40 hours per week

  • Pay: $45-$55/hour, based on qualifications, certification, experience, and employment arrangement
  • Weekly compensation:
    Approximately up to $2,100+, based on a 40-hour workweek
  • Guaranteed hours, including designated planning, collaboration, and administrative time as applicable
  • Support from both the school district and Thera Peds Partners
What You'll Do

As a school-based ASL Interpreter, you'll provide communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students throughout the educational environment. You'll interpret spoken English into American Sign Language and ASL into spoken English while maintaining the meaning, intent, tone, and context of communication.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing accurate and effective ASL-English interpretation during classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities
  • Interpreting communication between students, teachers, peers, administrators, related-service providers, and other school personnel
  • Supporting students' access to academic instruction, classroom discussions, group activities, assemblies, field trips, and other school-sponsored activities
  • Demonstrating strong receptive and expressive ASL skills and accurately interpreting classroom instruction and student interactions
  • Facilitating communication while maintaining the student's independence and appropriate professional interpreter boundaries
  • Adapting interpreting strategies to the student's age, language level, communication needs, and educational environment
  • Preparing for classroom content and becoming familiar with curriculum-specific terminology to support accurate interpretation
  • Collaborating with Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, special education teachers, general education teachers, related-service providers, and other members of the educational team
  • Supporting implementation of communication accommodations and services identified in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Participating in educational team meetings and IEP meetings when appropriate to the interpreter's assigned role
  • Maintaining confidentiality and protecting student information in accordance with district policies and applicable state and federal requirements
  • Following professional interpreting standards and ethical practices
  • Communicating effectively with educational teams regarding interpreting and communication-access needs while remaining within the interpreter's professional role
  • Supporting students across a variety of school environments and throughout the school day
Requirements What We're Looking For
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with strong receptive and expressive communication skills
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher, as applicable to Tennessee requirements
