Position Summary

Performs a wide variety of duties in keeping the plant and department(s) running productively through their daily routine, including scheduling employees to equalize workloads and offering assistance in any work area. Employees in this position are responsible for maintaining a clean and safe workplace and promptly notifying management of any hazards encountered in operation.

Responsibilities & Expectations Production
  • Troubleshoot, recognize, and resolve any problems that may arise.
  • Inspect and clean trucks and/or railcars.
  • Make alternate changes due to breakdowns or emergency cases.
  • Operate front‑end loader to move railcars into position for cleaning and loading.
  • Operate front‑end loader and bobcat to clean up around mine and plant areas.
  • Operate front‑end loader or dozer to feed stone into tunnel feeder.
  • Operate end dump truck.
  • Operate Oil Treatment System.
Reporting
  • Complete and submit daily equipment checklist to the plant superintendent.
  • Complete railcar inspection sheet.
Maintenance
  • Perform general maintenance work as directed.
Safety
  • Enforce and comply with all company, local, state, and federal safety policies and procedures.
  • Attend safety meetings.
  • Complete pre‑shift workplace examinations.
Quality System
  • Maintain the validity of all documentation affecting this position.
  • Maintain the validity of all procedures affecting this position.
Training
  • Provide on‑the‑job training as assigned.
  • Verify on‑the‑job training as assigned.
Backup
  • Back up other Utility Operators.
  • Back up Plant Operators.
  • Be backed up by other Utility Operators.
  • Be backed up by Plant Operators, Plant Superintendent, and Plant Manager.
Clean Up
  • All areas under and around conveyor belts.
  • All areas around dry plants.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
Attributes
  • Preventative Maintenance.
  • Industrial background with good troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
  • Ability to detect potential problems through observation in the field.
  • Work seven days a week, including holidays, and flexibility to schedule changes.
  • Have a telephone and be open to call‑outs.
  • Work 12‑hour shifts during plant outages.
  • Proven self‑direction and leadership abilities.
  • Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Team player who works well with others.
  • Open‑minded, willing to learn, and receptive to change.
  • Effectively communicate and interact with supervisors and peers.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment is desired.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents.
  • Knowledgeable of current environmental regulations and practices as they relate to the minerals industry.
Physical Demands
  • Access all areas within the site, which may include heights of up to 120 feet, confined spaces, and climbing ladders or stairs.
  • Capable of performing essential job duties required in this position.
  • Perform standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting as needed.
  • Lift over 50 pounds consistently.
  • Work in an office environment and mainly in a mining environment.
  • Be exposed to extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils, dust, fumes, and mineral particles.
