Machine Shop Manager

The role of the Machine Shop Manager is a hands‑on CNC Programmer and Operator position that will evolve into a leadership role responsible for building, scaling, and managing the company’s in‑house machine shop. The candidate will reduce external costs and improve lead times.

Responsibilities
  • Machining & Programming: Program, set up, and operate CNC milling/turning equipment; interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T; and perform inspections to maintain precision tolerances.
  • Shop Development: Establish standard processes, transition outsourced machining to in‑house, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Inventory & Equipment: Monitor inventory, ensure a clean work environment, and justify capital investments for equipment and tooling.
  • Leadership & Growth: Recruit and train personnel, manage production schedules, track shop performance metrics, and report status to leadership.
  • Safety: Enforce safety policies and ensure OSHA compliance.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 10+ years of CNC machining/programming experience, with a proven background in leading operations and transitioning outsourced work in‑house.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Expert‑level proficiency in CNC programming, CAM software, and advanced CAD (e.g., Solid Works).
  • Core Competencies: Proven leadership, strategic thinking, organizational skills, and the ability to perform physical requirements.
  • Preferred: Experience scaling a shop from the ground up, supervisory experience, lean manufacturing background, and familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
