Qualifications:
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license may be required for some positions.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- For the past five years, no record of driving‑under‑the‑influence (DUI), reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, or more than four moving violations.
Under general supervision, this entry‑level class is responsible for institutional and related security work of average difficulty. Employees may be assigned to any shift and perform a full range of security activities, such as protecting public buildings. The Security Guard 1 role differs from Security Guard 2 in that it does not include lead‑guard duties.
Responsibilities- Perform various security activities such as patrolling facilities, monitoring alarms, and checking for safety hazards and rule violations.
- Operate security equipment including two‑way radios and other communication devices, patrol and other transportation vehicles.
- Control the entrance and exit of individuals by verifying identity, purpose of visit, and authorization; escort individuals as needed.
- Respond to calls and take appropriate action in emergency situations; search for and apprehend missing or unauthorized individuals.
- Advise supervisors of any security concerns; communicate with law enforcement agencies to exchange information and request assistance.
- Prepare and maintain reports such as incident reports, vehicle citations, visitor logs, and personal property reports.
