D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center.
A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.
Laboratory Instructors in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program are assigned for specific class times when students require direct supervision of skills practice and/or testing. Assignments of instructors to specific stations and/or activities are made by the lead instructor for the individual course.
Regardless of the station or activity assigned, the laboratory instructor oversees the following:
1. Delivers training or retraining as necessary on skills according to the standards of the
current text, current level of the students, and the skill sheets used by the program. While individual variation in technique may be permissible, students should not receive instruction that is contradictory to what has been presented in lectures. The lead instructor will decide whether specific individual variations are permissible, subject to final determination by the Program Director and/or medical director.
2. Assuring that psychomotor and affective competency are evaluated according to the established criteria and documentation completed as needed.
3. Assuring that equipment and supplies are overseen appropriately, both for the safety of students and faculty, and for the protection of expensive resources. Any equipment damage must be reported to the lead instructor. Supplies are to be used only for the immediate laboratory activity and not removed from the College. Equipment and supplies are to be safely stored and secured at the end of class.
Used supplies are to be disposed of appropriately, including biohazards and sharps.
4. Ensures that equipment and supplies are restocked as needed.
5. Ensures that proper PPE is used as needed for the skill being taught.
6. Other duties as assigned.
7. Completing College timesheet as directed.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
1. EMT, AEMT, Paramedic or RN with EMS field experience
2. Demonstrated experience in the field
3. Credentialed and Completion of at least 1 Recertification Cycle at their current level of certification
4. Proven academic excellence and subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or associate degree.
Additional Considerations
1. Associate Degree in EMS or related field
2. Paramedic license
3. Educational or training experience with students.
Operation of a State Vehicle No Supervises Employees No Required Travel
Travel as required to campus locations.
