D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates in transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center.
A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.
Creating a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a subject. Teaching encompasses four components:
Instructional Design, Instructional Delivery, Instructional Effectiveness, and Instructional Expertise.
Engage in scholarly and/or creative activity, which may include conference attendance and presentation, professional organizations participation, academic coursework, scholarly research and publications, and grant activity.
Performing assigned or presumed duties according to one’s role at the college. These activities support and advance both the mission of the VCCS and the college to enhance the effective functioning of the college. These responsibilities include: participate in the college’s development and evaluation plan for part-time teaching faculty; participate in required department, committee, and college meetings, adhere to college and VCCS policies, perform assigned duties, and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty, and staff.
Quality participation and commitment to students, college and/or community organizations, which is an expectation of one’s activities as a professional educator. Activities in this domain are differentiated college representation, college citizenship, and community citizenship.
- Minimum of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in Philosophy.
- Teaching experience at the secondary or postsecondary level.
- Ability to design and deliver instruction that supports student learning and success.
- Ability to work effectively with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to use formative and summative assessment measures to evaluate and enhance student learning.
- Ability to teach courses in face-to-face and online learning environments.
- Proficiency with instructional technologies used for communication, course management, and presentation of course materials.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment to maintaining current knowledge in the discipline and effective teaching practices.
- Full-time teaching experience
- Community college teaching experience.
- Experience teaching using alternative delivery methods, such as online delivery, hybrid or hyflex formats.
- Experience integrating instructional technology and digital tools into teaching and learning.
- Interest in or experience incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) tools into philosophy instruction.
