Job DescriptionUnder the general supervision of the School Principal, the Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) Teacher maximizes the learning experience of young students by implementing district-approved early childhood curriculum; supporting the development of foundational academic, social-emotional, and motor skills; documenting teaching and student progress, activities, and outcomes; addressing individual developmental needs; and providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that promotes school readiness.
Essential Functions- Plan and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities aligned with early childhood education standards.
- Teach basic concepts such as letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and early reading skills.
- Foster social, emotional, and behavioral development in young children.
- Create a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Supervise children during classroom activities, meals, recess, and rest time.
- Observe and assess children's progress and developmental milestones.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about children's progress and needs.
- Manage classroom behavior using positive discipline techniques.
- Maintain classroom materials, learning centers, and educational resources.
- Follow health, safety, and licensing regulations.
- Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, and proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Education:
Bachelor's degree;
Master's degree preferred. - Certificates & Licenses:
Valid Virginia Department of Education license with an endorsement covering early childhood, or eligibility to obtain one. - Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level is preferred.
Commensurate with education and experience based on the Franklin City Public Schools salary scale (pending School Board approval).
Full-Time. $49,000 to $75,499 per year.
