Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post‑offer employment evaluation. This lead project inspector supports engineers in the daily contract administration of construction projects within the Division 5, Youngsville Resident Engineer’s office in Franklin County. Responsibilities include monitoring project work and material, ensuring conformance to specifications and contractual provisions, supervising and training lower‑level technicians, addressing staffing needs, and resolving constructability issues.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor project work and material to ensure conformance to specifications and contractual provisions.
- Supervise and assist in training lower‑level technicians, including Department employees and CEI staff.
- Address project staffing needs and assist with training.
- Perform and review project documentation, including sampling, testing, documentation, and estimates.
- Resolve daily constructability issues and ensure traffic control and contractor operations follow plans and standard drawings.
- Monitor contractor progress to ensure timely completion.
- Communicate and coordinate work with contractors, subcontractors, utility owners, media, and property owners.
- Apply judgement and decision making across a wide range of issues.

- Established communication lines between technicians, engineers, and contractors.
- Application of safety philosophy and programs.
- Ability to resolve routine problems and communicate complex issues to supervisors.
- Experience with HiCAMS, SharePoint, and Microsoft programs.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Safety toe shoes required.
- Planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Team collaboration to complete assignments.
- Application of engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Proficiency with computer equipment, software, and mathematical functions.
- Experience taking notes, collecting field data, and preparing routine reports.
Grade: NC13
Annual Salary: $50,088 – $87,654
Associate’s degree in an applicable area of engineering technology from an accredited institution and six (6) years of progressive technician experience; OR high school diploma or GED and eight (8) years of progressive technician experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
