About the Team
Operations Engineering at DCS encompasses Project and Mechanical Engineers that perform all engineering activities from receipt of contract through commissioning and close‑out of a project. We pride ourselves on creativity, problem‑solving, solid engineering techniques, and getting stuff done.
About the RoleAs a Mechanical Engineer, Distribution and Fulfillment you’ll apply your knowledge of engineering principles and materials to detail all aspects of material handling systems. You will be responsible for creating drawing sets that communicate the design to all stakeholders, including customers during firm engineering, building officials for permitting, and suppliers and subcontractors for their design and installation. You will contribute to a project team and report to an engineering manager.
You will periodically take an active role in person when working with customers during design. We’ll appreciate your methodical approach, solid technical know‑how, and attention to detail in your work.
- Review and apply customer specifications to design
- Review architectural and other drawings against conveyance design to check for interferences and ensure clearance requirements are met
- Participate in firm engineering meetings with the customers and suppliers; may lead technical discussion during these meetings
- Support in person meetings with customers or vendors near the DCS office (Franklin, TN) and occasionally in a customer’s office or job site
- Produce detailed mechanical installation drawings
- Create detailed Bills of Material for purchasing equipment
- Create point load drawings when required
- Verify calculations, such as horsepower and throughput
- Work with vendors to review equipment drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with customer requirements
- Provide technical guidance during detailed design to best industry standards
- Produce and/or compile installation details, including supplier installation drawings and manuals, for the field
- Travel to job sites to verify field conditions
- Report drawing status to the Project Engineer as required maintaining the project schedule
- Create and maintain CAD files
- Review and create as‑built drawings
- May occasionally design parts or platforms required for material handling system
- Provide other required engineering tasks as necessary
- Work a hybrid office schedule with an average of three days per week in the DCS office (Franklin, TN).
- You have a BS in a technical discipline (ME, EE, other engineering/CAD)
- You have 4-6 years of experience with projects in the distribution and fulfillment space
- You have 4+ years of MHE execution design experience [with a focus on Amazon]
- You have a solid knowledge of drafting & design standards
- You excel in collaborative in person environment as well as a remote setting, and are excited to be a part of our local team of experts
- You’re proficient in AutoCAD & have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- You’re flexible and able to transition between several projects
- You possess excellent written and spoken communication skills
- You understand that the details make the big picture work, and like working in the details
- You’re more excited about the success of your team than your own personal success
