We Energies, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking 2 Technical Electric Testing South positions in our Franklin, Wisconsin location. This position is represented by We Energies L2150 Union.
Job SummaryThis Tech‑Elec Testing position is located in the Special Testing Group. It involves programming/coordination, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of relays, metering, communication/control systems, and other company‑owned devices at ATC substations, power plants, line reclosers, SCADA devices, and customer substations. The role evaluates new relay and SCADA devices before start‑up, provides technical support and training to various engineering and management groups, and develops/maintains instrument and relay test procedures.
It also performs high‑potential and fault‑location tests on power circuits and related equipment and may handle additional special projects, which may result in scheduled or unscheduled overtime.
- Pinpoint outage‑related underground cable faults for repair crews
- Conduct both AC & DC high‑potential testing on new and aged substation bus and breakers
- Conduct reliability HV AC partial‑discharge testing of new and aged cable systems and analyze results
- Locate and mark all underground facilities for construction services within substations, generation, and other controlled locations; color differentiation is essential
- Conduct periodic maintenance dielectric‑testing of fleet field units
- Repair and calibrate miscellaneous test equipment as requested to support other groups
- Provide analysis, direction, and expertise to associated groups and engineering teams
- Two‑year associate degree in electronics technology or a minimum of 60 credits of college coursework from an accredited institution, with at least 35 credits in electrical engineering/electronics
- Valid driver’s license that meets company driving requirements
- Compliance with DOT Part 199 pipeline drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Ability to satisfy all company and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Standard 004 security requirements, including a background investigation, as the position may require unescorted access to critical cyber assets
Technician Selection System (TECH) – Technician level: Requires the ability to use numerical information presented in drawings, prints, and graphs to solve arithmetic problems; to use symbols and codes to locate objects on a map; to comprehend pictured mechanical principles; and to read, apply rules, and make decisions based on written information. Suggested preparation includes reviewing basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, fractions, etc.).

Electron Test: Measures electronics knowledge and skills required for maintenance jobs. Suggested preparation includes reviewing electronic theory: digital electronics, analog electronics, relay logic, power supplies, and computer & PLC.

Minimum Posting Range: $37.08
Maximum Posting Range: $61.77
The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.
