Position Summary

The Senior Accountant/Financial Analyst performs advance professional accounting and financial analysis in support of the Town’s financial operations. This role serves as a senior accounting resource responsible for complex reconciliations, financial reporting, month-end and year-end coordination, budget analysis, forecasting, audit coordination, and internal control oversight. The Senior Accountant/Financial Analyst exercised a high degree of independent judgement, provides technical expertise, identifies process improvements, and delivers financial analysis to support organizational planning and decision-making.

  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.
  • Perform complex general ledger reconciliations and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and management reports.
  • Lead preparation of audit schedules, supporting documentation, and coordination with external auditors.
  • Perform budget-to-actual analysis and identify significant variances and trends.
  • Develop revenue and expenditure forecasts to support budget planning and financial decision-making.
  • Analyze financial performance and prepare recommendations for management.
  • Maintain and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting standards, Town policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and approve complex journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Conduct technical accounting research and recommend appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Assist with development and implementation of accounting policies and financial procedures.
  • Support annual budget development and long-range financial planning.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to accounting staff and departmental personnel.
  • Participate in financial system implementations, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for executive leadership, Town Board, and external agencies as assigned.
  • Monitor compliance with grant requirements, debt reporting, and other governmental financial obligations.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
Work Experience
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional accounting or financial analysis experience.
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, audit coordination, and general ledger accounting.
  • Municipal or governmental accounting experience preferred.
Certifications (preferred but not required)/Licenses
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM)
  • Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) training or coursework
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or equivalent financial analysis certification
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment.
  • Requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and working at a computer.
  • Frequent use of office equipment, including computers, calculators, printers, telephones, and other business technology.
  • Requires visual acuity and sustained concentration to analyze financial data, prepare reports, and review detailed accounting records.
