Job SummaryThe position’s main purpose is to audit and verify timesheets and payrolls for assigned units, and perform related fiscal duties required to support payroll functions for over 6,000 employees with an annual payroll total of $428 million.
Responsibilities- Conduct manual inputs, adjustments, and transmittals as required by the Department of Budget and Management and local county departments.
- Audit timesheets to ensure leave taken is accurately recorded and breakdown timekeeping reports in accordance with established procedures.
- Serve as a liaison on leave and pay issues for all headquarters personnel from any DHR unit, ensuring accurate leave and pay per Payroll Services customer service guidelines.
- Audit and calculate overtime and shift differentials for assigned local departments, applying the 40/40 and 8/80 methods of overtime payments to ensure accurate pay for overtime and shift employees.
Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered for hire.
- High school graduation or high school equivalency certificate.
- One year of experience reconciling agency accounting systems to fiscal control systems, developing automated spreadsheets, ledgers, and reports using accounting software, or identifying budget trends and recommending budget realignments.
- Optional substitution:
Calculating and recording financial, statistical, or other numerical data may substitute yearly experience for the required education. - Optional substitution: U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technician classifications may substitute one year of military experience for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience working within the SPS Workday system.
- One year of experience in an MD State Agency payroll unit.
- One year of experience in research and process over/under payments.
- One year of experience in customer service with assisting employees.
- Health, dental, and vision plans offered at a low cost.
- Personal Leave: 6 personnel days annually (prorated).
- Annual Leave: 10 days per year.
- Sick Leave: 15 days per year.
- Parental Leave: up to 60 days of paid leave upon birth or adoption.
- Holidays: at least 12 state holidays per year.
- Pension: credits toward a retirement pension.
- Positions may be eligible for telework.
