The Opportunity

A rapidly growing technology infrastructure and project-based construction organization is seeking a Revenue & Project Accounting Manager to join its Finance team.

This is a highly visible, hands‑on leadership role responsible for owning the accounting side of the revenue close across a portfolio of complex, long‑term projects. The Accounting Manager will oversee a growing team of 4-5 Project Accountants while partnering closely with Project Managers, Operations, and Finance leadership.

The ideal candidate comes from a construction, engineering, infrastructure, or similar project‑based environment and has strong experience with percentage‑of‑completion (POC) revenue recognition, WIP reporting, ASC 606, job‑cost forecasting, and project accounting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the month‑end and quarter‑end revenue recognition process for long‑term, project‑based contracts.
  • Manage revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 and percentage‑of‑completion (POC) accounting.
  • Prepare, review, and own Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules, including earned revenue and over/under billings.
  • Calculate and analyze revenue earned, costs incurred, estimated costs to complete, project margins, and profitability.
  • Partner directly with Project Managers to review job‑cost budgets, billing schedules, project forecasts, and estimates‑to‑complete.
  • Lead job‑cost and margin forecasting across active projects and identify trends that could impact revenue or profitability.
  • Review contracts, change orders, and contract modifications for appropriate revenue recognition treatment.
  • Own the accounting side of the monthly revenue close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Monitor project profitability and proactively identify cost overruns, margin deterioration, billing issues, or project delays.
  • Partner with billing and project accounting teams to ensure invoicing aligns with contract terms and recognized revenue.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a growing team of 4-5 Project Accountants.
  • Review project‑level accounting to ensure consistent and accurate job‑cost tracking and revenue reporting.
  • Support revenue‑related audit schedules and external audit requests.
  • Develop and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation surrounding revenue recognition.
  • Identify opportunities to improve WIP reporting, revenue processes, forecasting, and communication between Finance and Operations.
  • Provide ad hoc revenue and project profitability analysis to Finance leadership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • Significant experience in construction, engineering, infrastructure, or another project‑based accounting environment.
  • 2-3+ years of leadership or people‑management experience.
  • Strong hands‑on knowledge of percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition.
  • Strong understanding of ASC 606.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and analyzing WIP schedules.
  • Experience with job costing, earned revenue, over/under billings, and estimates‑to‑complete.
  • Experience forecasting project costs, margins, and profitability.
  • Strong month‑end close experience, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Ability to review contracts and change orders and understand their impact on project accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Project Managers and Operations teams.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
