Essential Job Functions- Entry‑level clerical position, performing civil litigation case processing duties and responsibilities daily for Anne Arundel County District Court (Glen Burnie Location).
- Provide the public and attorneys with information regarding case statuses and court procedures.
- Specialized clerical work following clearly established guidelines and procedures.
- Primary cash‑working position to process incoming payments into the register systems.
- Enter civil correspondence received. Process over‑the‑counter and electronic filings received daily, such as motions, requests, change of address, intentions to defend, service, setting trial/hearing dates, etc. Review incoming correspondence for accuracy. Time‑stamp filings as received over the counter.
- Greet and assist customers and attorneys by telephone or in person at the counter, advising them of procedures and providing general information.
- Process incoming daily payments from mail, over the counter and from courtrooms as the primary cashier utilizing the RCS and Odyssey Register System. Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Education: High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
- Experience: One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.
- Replace qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree may substitute the required work experience. A Paralegal/Associate’s Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience. A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.
- General office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary.
- Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
- Typing on a personal computer.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Use standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, cash register, scanner, fax machine, etc.
- Use and maintain numerical filing system to locate files until all cases are completely scanned.
- Communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively with judges, the public, police agencies, attorneys, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing.
- Understand and abide by departmental rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Exercise tact, diplomacy, and impartiality in dealing with the public, law enforcement personnel, and attorneys.
- Follow procedures, verbal and written instructions, and protocols for any given assignment.
- Use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying appropriate policy, procedure, rule, law, and/or regulation to a situation.
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
