The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Division Commander of the Field Operations Bureau of the Maryland Capitol Police, as well as to all members of that Bureau. The individual in this role supports the agency's mission by facilitating and documenting departmental activities and ensuring effective communication both within the agency and with external stakeholders.
PositionDuties
- Assist in processing and maintaining all records related to the Annapolis Division, including but not limited to payroll, personnel files, performance evaluations, training records, and certification records.
- Act as liaison responding promptly and accurately to special requests made by the Chief of Police, members of the headquarters division of the Maryland Capitol Police, Department of General Services, and the public.
- Transcribe taped police interviews in cases of incidents, complaints, or allegations made against the department and department staff.
Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:
Four years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.
- Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience establishing, revising, and implementing office procedures.
- Experience managing telephone calls, welcoming visitors, and coordinating appointments and interviews.
- Experience maintaining the confidentiality of records and reports.
Must be able to type on a keyboard on a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute.
Selection ProcessSelection will be based on education, training, and experience related to the requirements of the position. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list, valid for one year and may be extended. Employers will use this list to select employees for interviews and to fill future vacancies of the same classification. Background checks and legal authorization under the U.S. Immigration Reform and Control Act are required.
