Location of PositionAnnapolis, Maryland
Position DutiesThe Comptroller of Maryland (COM) is recruiting a Data Analyst to support COMStat, the agency's first performance management and accountability system. This role involves data analysis, visualization, governance, dashboard development, data quality standards, and automation of data collection, cleaning, and analysis processes. The analyst coordinates efforts to make data easily accessible, enabling decision‑making for businesses, residents, and civil servants.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:
Six years of administrative staff or professional work.
- Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
- For education obtained outside of the U.S., proof of an equivalent American education is required, as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Data Science, Statistics, Data Analytics & Visualization, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a similar field.
- Four or more years of experience designing, operating, or managing a data analytics program.
- Two or more years of experience designing, operating, or managing an Open Government Data program.
- Four or more years of experience creating reports, dashboards, and other data visualizations using Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, and/or SAP Business Objects.
- Experience in designing and maintaining the technical infrastructure that supports data collection, integration, and analysis.
