Safety Specialist / Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)

Are you passionate about creating a safe work environment and ensuring every employee goes home safely at the end of the day? FSI is seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to lead safety initiatives on a federal facilities operations and maintenance contract.

What You’ll Do

As the Site Safety & Health Officer, you’ll be the leader responsible for implementing and maintaining our site safety program while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, contract requirements, and FSI’s commitment to workplace safety.

  • Lead and champion FSI’s safety culture across the project site.
  • Implement, manage, and enforce the Site‑Specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
  • Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments.
  • Lead weekly toolbox talks and safety meetings for all employees.
  • Deliver and coordinate health and safety training programs.
  • Ensure employees are using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Review and support Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 Logs and required safety documentation.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA, EM 385‑1‑1, contract requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Partner closely with project leadership, government representatives, and subcontractors to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Exercise stop‑work authority when immediate safety hazards exist.
What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a safety professional who leads by example, communicates effectively, and is committed to continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications
  • OSHA 30‑Hour Construction or General Industry certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of continuous safety experience in construction, facilities maintenance, operations & maintenance (O&M), or general industry.
  • Experience managing workplace safety programs, conducting hazard analyses, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Documentation demonstrating a minimum of 8 hours of formal safety training annually over the past five years.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and workplace safety best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Experience supporting federal government or military installation contracts.
  • Experience with EM 385‑1‑1 safety requirements.
