Position Summary

Advocate IT is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Graphic Designer / Artist to support public‑sector graphic design services in Frederick, Maryland. The ideal candidate will have experience developing professional, brand‑compliant, and accessible visual materials for government, community outreach, public information, and organizational communications.

This role will support the design and production of print, digital, web, social media, presentation, and public‑facing materials. The successful candidate must be able to translate concepts, written content, and client direction into polished visual products that are accurate, visually engaging, accessible, and aligned with established brand and style guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop graphic design products for print, digital, web, social media, presentations, reports, campaigns, public notices, community outreach, and related communications
  • Create flyers, brochures, posters, newsletters, infographics, icons, templates, signage, presentation graphics, and other visual materials
  • Apply established brand and style guide requirements, including typography, color usage, logos, seals, imagery, layout, and formatting standards
  • Design materials that are professional, accessible, readable, and appropriate for public-facing government communications
  • Prepare final files for print production, digital publication, web use, email distribution, and presentation delivery
  • Support revisions, edits, and rapid‑turnaround design requests while maintaining quality and consistency
  • Collaborate with project managers, communications staff, client stakeholders, and other team members to understand design requirements and incorporate feedback
  • Maintain organized design files, editable source files, final deliverables, templates, and reusable assets
  • Review materials for accuracy, layout consistency, formatting, accessibility, and visual quality before submission
  • Support multiple design assignments and deadlines in a professional and responsive manner
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional graphic design, visual communications, digital media, or related creative experience
  • Portfolio or work samples demonstrating graphic design capabilities
  • Experience creating print and digital design products
  • Proficiency with graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Canva, Figma, or similar tools
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to work across multiple applications
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and quality control
  • Ability to follow brand standards, style guides, templates, and client instructions
  • Ability to manage deadlines and incorporate feedback in a timely manner
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting government, public-sector, nonprofit, education, community outreach, or professional services communications
  • Experience working in regulated or public-facing environments where accuracy, accessibility, and consistency are important
  • Experience designing accessible PDFs, reports, presentations, and digital materials
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, Teams, and related Microsoft 365 tools
  • Knowledge of ADA, Section 508, or WCAG accessibility principles desired
  • Experience preparing print-ready files, including bleed, margins, resolution, color format, and production specifications
  • Photography, illustration, animation, video editing, or web design experience a plus
  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • Frederick County or Maryland-based candidates preferred
