About the Position Dexis is seeking an Editorial Technician II to support a large-scale Army test and evaluation program. The project provides data collection, technical writing, computer operations, range scheduling, and administrative support services necessary to execute the government’s test mission. Support encompasses testing of a wide variety of automotive, combat, electronic, general equipment, and ordnance materiel, with services including data collection and coordination, data compilation and processing, development and management of data collection forms, test monitoring, technical writing and editorial review, reporting, data and software administration, range scheduling, and related operational support.
The Editorial Technician II edits and proofreads technical documents for grammar, clarity, factual consistency, format, and proper English usage. The role verifies and corrects factual information, works with technical terminology and multimedia formats, converts photo and graphic files, and ensures final documents accurately incorporate editorial changes.
Work will be performed primarily onsite in Aberdeen, Maryland, with travel to other locations within the Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) as required by mission needs. This position is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities- Edit documents for grammar, punctuation, syllabification, spelling, capitalization, proper English usage, grammatical construction, and specific format requirements.
- Revise sentences, paragraphs, paragraph order, and order of presentation to improve clarity and grammatical accuracy.
- Determine publication format by marking copy, planning layout, or preparing specifications for textual or tabular documents.
- Correct obvious errors of fact and identify factual inconsistencies in documents.
- Verify the accuracy of statements, figures, illustrations, and subject-matter terms using standard reference works or other published material.
- Compare illustrations, photographs, tables, and charts with text to ensure they are pertinent and consistent.
- Apply familiarity with technical terminology, jargon, and multimedia formats.
- Convert photo and graphic file formats and insert web links, photographs, graphics, and video files.
- Proofread final copy to ensure editorial changes and markings have been incorporated.
- Safeguard passwords and access to office computer files and programs.
- Six (6) years of experience as an Editorial Technician or Technical Writer; OR an Associate’s degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Communications, Science, or Engineering and four (4) years of experience in technical writing or editing; OR a Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Mass Communications, or Science and two (2) years of experience in technical writing or editing.
- Must be proficient in the advanced functionality and tools of Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.
- Must possess a high school diploma.
- Must be proficient in the speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Must be proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned functions, which may include working in extreme heat or cold, high humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, at heights, and walking distances over unimproved terrain while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
