About Shepherd Electric Supply

Since 1892, Shepherd Electric Supply has been the first call when complex, time‑critical electrical challenges need to be solved and reliability truly matters. We move materials accurately and on time so contractors stay on schedule, projects stay on track, and customers never have to wonder if we’ll come through. Our success comes from people who take pride in doing things the right way ‑ safely, accurately, and with care for teammates and customers alike.

Why

This Role Matters

Counter Sales is where Shepherd’s reputation is made and kept ‑ one transaction at a time. When customers walk through the door or call in with a time‑sensitive need, the Counter Sales Representative is the face of Shepherd: knowledgeable, dependable, and ready to help. Accurate quotes, quick product identification, and excellent customer care build loyalty and strengthen the relationships that drive Shepherd’s growth.

This is not a passive role. You are the first voice and the last impression. Every interaction is an opportunity to demonstrate Shepherd shows up ‑ and keeps showing up.

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm.

Compensation

The expected pay rate for this position is $20.00 – $23.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Key Outcomes
  • Assist walk‑in and call‑in customers with part identification, product selection, and order processing.
  • Provide accurate quotes and follow through to close ‑ no dropped handoffs.
  • Build strong customer relationships that bring contractors and facility managers back by name.
  • Represent Shepherd professionally in every interaction – appearance, conduct, and communication.
  • Identify upsell and cross‑sell opportunities that serve the customer’s project needs, not just the immediate order.
  • Maintain product knowledge and accuracy across multiple lines.
  • Using Eclipse confidently to look up product availability, pricing, and order history.
  • Support a fast‑paced branch, adapt to shifting priorities, and collaborate effectively.
  • Complete tasks assigned by branch leadership with ownership and follow‑through.
  • Flag issues early – stock shortfalls, order concerns, customer escalations – before they compound.
Success Metrics (After 90 days)
  • Customers are greeted promptly and leave with the right product and a positive experience.
  • Quotes and orders are processed accurately – rework and returns tied to counter errors are rare.
  • Ability to identify common electrical products and navigate the Eclipse system confidently.
  • Teammates and supervisors trust that your counter runs without close supervision.
  • Actively building customer relationships that generate repeat business.
Who Thrives Here
  • Enjoy helping people and take satisfaction in solving problems quickly.
  • Take pride in accuracy and care whether things are done right.
  • Dependable, organized, and steady under pressure.
  • Communicate clearly and speak up when something is off.
  • Eager to learn the electrical industry and grow expertise over time.
  • Treat every customer interaction as a chance to strengthen a relationship, not just close a transaction.
  • Hold oneself to a standard even when no one is watching.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in the electrical industry preferred; attitude and reliability matter more than years.
  • Proficiency in computer usage; familiarity with Eclipse software is a plus.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) proficiency is a plus.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and lift items up to 70lbs.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to getting things right the first time.
  • Dependable attendance and a team‑oriented mindset.
  • Ability to successfully complete pre‑employment screening requirements.
