Part Time Pediatric Dentist

Part time pediatric dentist (the Contractor) will practice pediatric dentistry in the Frederick County Health Department dental clinic for dental patients 18 years of age or younger with Medical Assistance or without insurance. In this setting, they will:

Examine patients, diagnose dental diseases, recognize medical conditions manifested orally, and render appropriate treatments.

Perform a variety of intraoral dental services in the practice of clinical dentistry consistent with established standards.

Provide oral health education.

Provide emergency care and treatment.

Use nitrous oxide as needed for care of pediatric patients.

Prescribe medications.

Maintain accurate and thorough patient records.

Work in conjunction with other dentists, dental hygienist, and dental assistants in providing appropriate treatment and care to patients.

Participate in the training and orientation of professional and support staff.

Participate in clinic and organizational meetings.

Prepare and review patient case histories, and other records and reports.

Consult with other health care providers regarding patient treatments.

Refer cases as necessary.

Supervise the exposure and development of dental radiographs.

Interpret dental radiographs.

Participate in required county trainings.

Demonstrate highest level of professionalism, ethics and standards of care.

Perform other related duties as required. (

Be at least 18 years old and of good moral character, as stipulated by the Health Occupations Article§4302

Hold a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an ADA-accredited dental school recognized by the Maryland Board

Pass a recognized clinical licensing exam (e.g., ADEX) and the National Board Dental Examinations

Pass the Maryland Dental Jurisprudence Examination, specific to Maryland laws and regulations for dental practice

Complete a 2-year pediatric dentistry residency program at a dental school or hospital approved by the Maryland Board.

Many seek and maintain board certification from the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (optional but common for specialists).
