Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this part-time contractual position is to provide comprehensive, patient-centered dental care services within the Charles County Department of Health dental program, with primary emphasis on advanced clinical treatment, including oral surgery and endodontic procedures, while supporting preventive, restorative, and prosthodontic services in alignment with Maryland Department of Health program standards, grant requirements, and public health priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Determined by the State Board of Dental Examiners under the licensing requirements for Dentists.

Experience: Two years of experience in the practice of dentistry.

Notes
  • Candidates may substitute possession of a Master’s degree in Public Health for one year of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dental Officer classifications or Dental Corpsman or Officer specialty codes in the dental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dentist from the State Board of Dental Examiners, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland .
  • Candidates for positions in this classification must possess or be eligible to obtain controlled substances registration certificates issued by the federal government and the State of Maryland in order to prescribe narcotic medication.
  • Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training in and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
Special Requirements
  • Applicants for this classification may be given a medical examination prior to appointment to determine their ability to perform the work of the position.
  • Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

Benefits

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled.

The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
