REPORTS TO: Director of Parks, Recreation, & Library Services, Library Department Managers
CLASS / RATE OF PAY: $12.75 / hour
HOURS: 20-25 Hours per week; evenings and weekend hours required
UNION: AFSCME - White
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt, hourly
SUMMARY OF
JOB DUTIES:
Entry-level position to assist with front desk responsibilities, customer service, technical service, and other clerical duties.
- Check materials in and out, collect fines, sort and shelve materials, answer telephones, provide customer service at the desk, and create/renew library cards.
- Track library usage statistics and assist in compiling reports.
- Make recommendations for acquisition and withdrawal of materials to the Department Manager.
- Assist in set up and cleanup of meetings, programs, and events.
- Attend staff meetings, conferences, and other meetings as necessary.
- Provide technical support for library resources, including databases, equipment, and wireless internet, including patrons utilizing public computers and personal electronic devices.
- Other duties as assigned, including assisting with programming and special events, new employee training, creation and maintenance of displays, and mending.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or equivalent, plus six (6) hours of continuing education required every two (2) years of employment, to be documented and submitted to the Library Director per state requirements.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent customer service and organizational skills; ability to interact with children, teens, and adults of all ages and assist with questions.
- Ability to work effectively, in a team and independently, and communicate with the public, staff, and volunteers; must be flexible, reliable, and able to multitask.
- Knowledge of public library services and materials; ability to use computers and Microsoft Office software required; ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
- Ability to value and maintain privacy and confidentiality of public data and personal information; must display honesty and convey integrity to maintain public trust.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and able to bend, squat, and kneel occasionally, able to reach, lift and stretch, able to stand and/or walk for up to four (4) hours at a time, able to carry files, documents and other library, and non-library, related materials. Physical requirements can be met with reasonable accommodations as necessary.
An offer of employment will be conditional on passing pre-employment criminal background checks, including child abuse screening and fingerprinting, and physical examination including drug screen.
