NOTICE OF VACANCYPOSITION:Head Start Pre-Kindergarten Instructional Assistant 2
LOCATION:As assigned by the Program Coordinator or Grant Manager. Program or classroom location may change to meet the needs of the program.
POSITION SUMMARY:The prekindergarten general instructional assistant 2 will provide instructional, behavioral, and social emotional support services to help achieve a well-organized, smoothly functioning class and school environment where students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resources. Program or classroom location may change to meet the needs of the program.
REPORTS TO:Head Start Coordinator, Principal and Supervisor of Early Childhood Education
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or general education development (GED) program certificate.Associate Arts (AA) Degree or Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) preferred.Experience working with early childhood children and children with disabilities and with managing behaviors is preferred.Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) must be obtained within 18 months of employees hire date unless an AA degree is obtained.KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:(These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities, and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.)

Exceptional ability to understand and communicate with both verbal and written skillsAbility to operate various office machines and instructional technologyAbility to follow a flexible schedule and adapt to various environmentsDemonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, parents, and community membersDemonstrated ability to problem solve, make informed decisions, and communicate effectively with all stakeholders when presented with stressful situationsDemonstrated ability to organize and prioritize tasksSuch alternative to the above qualification as the Calvert County Public Schools and/or Head Start Program may find appropriate and acceptableESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist the teacher in implementing activities consistent with the curriculum guide, resources and training providedAssists teacher with implementation of classroom duties, routines, and instructionWorks with groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacherGuides independent study, enrichment work, and other student supports planned by the teacherProvide instructional, behavioral and social emotional supports and services to all studentsWork with the teacher to facilitate activities for all children both indoors and outdoors. Assist individual children in need of special attention in areas including, but not limited to, academics, social, emotional, and behavioral supportsAssists the teacher in planning and maintaining a safe, clean learning environment and in assuring the well being and safety of the children in his/her careAssist with the provision of specially designed instruction and consistent implementation of student(s)' Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) under the direction of the teacherAssist in assessment and data collection for students to assist in planning targeted instruction and Individualized Education Program (IEP) services and supports under the direction of the teacherDelivers academic interventions and implements proactive behavioral supports/ interventionsIntervenes in crisis situations in the school environment as neededAssist students with personal hygiene, including designing toileting schedules, toileting/changing and activities of daily livingAssists individual children in need of special attentionSets up, and/or operates, instructional technology, laboratory equipment, and computer programsAssists the teacher in providing a high quality program and supports teacher as they move through the EXCELS and Accreditation processAccompanies teacher on visits to each child's home as indicated on the planning calendar, to meet parents or guardians and become familiar with the child's family and home environmentAssists the teacher in maintaining con?dential student folders that included student work samples, assessments, individual goals, and observations of progress toward meeting goalsSits with children during all meal times providing a model for good nutritional habits and manners. Engages students in discussions to build their oral communication skillsAssists the teacher with modeling healthy routines such as teeth brushing and handwashing.Participates in professional learning opportunitiesProvides periodic class coverage in absence of a classroom teacherMay provide class coverage for the teacher during rest/mindfulness timeAttends and supports students during resource classes each day (inside and outside of the classroom)Assists with recess duty dailyPositively interacts with othersReports to work promptly every dayMeets deadlinesDuties listed are not…
