Position Summary
Maryland‑National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks & Recreation, Prince George’s County is currently seeking Summer Program Directors in inclusive camp settings (including campers with and without disabilities). The role involves supervising program participants ranging in ages 6‑17, some of whom may have disabilities, and overseeing the day‑to‑day operation of a comprehensive summer program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities- Overall supervision of summer programs for participants ages 6–17, including those with disabilities.
- Training, supervising, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
- Providing supervision to program participants and developing, planning, and implementing an inclusive thematic curriculum/lesson plans.
- Evaluating programs and special events.
- Ensuring a safe, secure and customer friendly environment, coordinating with parents, M‑NCPPC supervisors, and Prince George’s County Public Schools personnel.
- Enforcing all M‑NCPPC rules, regulations and Youth Camp Standards.
- Performing program support duties and acting as assistant to the Director of a large program, and being in charge of the program in the absence of the Assistant Director.
- Overseeing program leaders conducting daily activities and the production of the weekly calendar.
- Establishing and maintaining a good rapport with participants, parents, and other staff.
Required
- The ideal candidate will possess 2 years of experience with youth in the field of parks and recreation, physical education, childcare or a related field. Experience should include at least 24 weeks of previous experience in a camping or children's program as an administrator or supervisor.
- Candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
- All summer program staff are required to attend pre‑service training, Youth Camp Safety Standards training, food service training (where applicable), and obtain CPR and First Aid certification prior to the beginning of camp.
- Must enjoy playing and interacting with children.
- Pass a Maryland State background check.
- Positions are filled on an as‑needed basis. Candidates are encouraged to contact the facility of interest to inquire about specific hiring needs.
- These positions are seasonal and do not include a benefits package.
- Salaries are dependent on experience.
- A criminal background check will be completed prior to hire.
- May be subject to medical, drug, and alcohol testing.
