Position Summary

Adjunct faculty teach courses as assigned based on disciplinary needs, educational background, and experience. Adjunct faculty develop and/or present course materials as requested by their supervisor and evaluate student progress in adherence with the core learning outcomes of assigned courses. Adjunct faculty are expected community and college requirements, work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, and use varying teaching styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Facilitate student mastery of learning outcomes using the most relevant scholarly and professional tools and practices available in the discipline.
  • Actively engage students in critical thinking, meta-cognitive processes, and advancement of essential communication skills.
  • Infuse multicultural and diverse perspectives into the instructional process as appropriate and conduct classes in a manner that demonstrates respect for individual and cultural differences.
  • Model and cultivate open-minded inquiry, an appreciation for diverse perspectives, and creative problem‑solving.
  • Maintain currency in academic discipline and pedagogy.
  • Complete all assigned institutional and professional training.
  • Deliver instruction, assess and report student learning, assign grades, and regularly communicate with students in adherence with FCC requirements.
  • Adhere to instructional timelines and guidelines and utilize college instructional technology.
  • Use only an FCC email account when conducting College business.
  • Submit syllabi and other instructional materials in a timely manner.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and, when appropriate, use the Student Success Alert notification process.
  • Assess student work in a timely manner and submit course grades by the posted deadline.
  • Online course instructors will respond to student email inquiries within 24-36 hours.
  • Use the FCC email account provided to communicate with the College, faculty, staff, and students. Share this information with their students.
  • Proficient use of course materials and medium(s).
Professional Development
  • Stay current with developments, trends, and emerging information within the discipline.
  • Identify and implement, as appropriate, innovative pedagogical practices.
  • Strive to understand and use technology as it applies to pedagogical standards of delivery within the discipline and as it is appropriate for the student population.
  • Apply technology or other skills to tasks designated by the administration and professional development opportunities.
Other Expectations
  • Participate in New Adjunct Orientation, Adjunct Nights, and other professional training provided by the College for which adjunct faculty will be additionally compensated.
  • Collect and submit required student learning outcomes (SLO) and general education assessment data for courses under review.
  • Submit required employment documentation, including all official post‑secondary transcripts, in a timely manner.
  • Complete Title IX Sexual Misconduct, safety and security, and other required training.
  • Communicate evacuation, lockdown, and other safety protocols to students during the first class session and repeat as necessary after the last add date.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s of Law/Legal Studies/Paralegal, and Master’s of Paralegal or Master’s of Laws
  • Experience working as a paralegal or supervising paralegal
  • Professional experience with court system, law firms, corporations, governmental/administrative agencies, public interest organizations, or related industries
  • Poised in navigating the developing landscape of the paralegal profession and related industries including a command of stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctor of Jurisprudence
  • Ability to use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multi-cultural workplace and classroom
  • Two years of college teaching experience.
  • Experience using online learning management systems such as Blackboard
