Position SummaryThe Biotechnology faculty position supports the Biotechnology programs and strategic operation of the School of Biological, Physical and Health Sciences. Faculty work as members of an instructional team of full- and part-time colleagues to consistently deliver high-quality instruction to students. By creating an inclusive learning environment that integrates diverse perspectives and respect for all individuals, the faculty member fosters student mastery of learning outcomes using current disciplinary practices while actively engaging students in critical thinking, effective communication, creative problem‑solving and modeling open‑minded inquiry.
This position is part of the full‑time faculty collective bargaining unit. Working conditions (including teaching load) are governed by the UAMD‑FCC collective bargaining agreement. The work that belongs to full‑time faculty includes, but is not limited to, teaching, mentoring, advising and other instructional duties and assistance to students; professional service, including developing and maintaining the integrity of the curriculum and degree requirements, assessment and accreditation, and other duties related to departmental and college organization and operation;
discipline‑appropriate scholarly and creative activity; and other professional engagement in the broader life of the College community to continually improve academic standards and foster the best possible educational experience for students.
- Teach assigned courses in biotechnology or related fields in instructional modalities as determined by the College.
- Maintain an in‑person, on‑campus presence for a minimum of 20 hours per week.
- Participate in curriculum development, academic assessment and accreditation responsibilities as appropriate.
- Develop and implement strategies for student success, including general student advising.
- Attend and participate in division, school, career community and other meetings, Commencement, Convocations, time‑sensitive meetings called by administration, student open houses, orientations and administrative days.
- Provide service to the College, including but not limited to participation in College committees.
- Contribute to the College's strategic initiatives, including participation in student, course, and program outreach activities in the College and community.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning, including, but not limited to, the implementation of new pedagogical delivery techniques, up‑to‑date knowledge of the discipline and effective teaching practices.
- Perform other work‑related duties as assigned.
The minimum starting salary is $68,000 annually. The salary of the candidate selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities and education.
