Position Summary

Enhanced Services Teacher Aides work with students with moderate to severe disabilities and/or small groups on learning tasks planned by teachers. They tutor students in subject areas under teacher supervision, participate in lunch, recess, and reinforcement programs, prepare teaching materials, operate audio‑visual equipment, assist with field trips, manage clerical duties, implement behavior management programs, collect and document behavioral data, and take part in staff development and after‑school activities as appropriate.

The position may also involve other duties as directed by the Student Support Specialist, Enhanced Program Coordinator, Principal, or Chief Educational Programs Officer.

• Work with an individual child or small group on special learning tasks planned by the teacher or identified on the IEP.
• Serve as a tutor in a special subject area.
• Assist with recess, lunch duty, reinforcement, and related activities.
• Assist in behavior modification and training programs, including data collection and support as needed.
• Help prepare teaching materials for the classroom.
• Transport children to campus locations such as the infirmary, library, dorm, and others.
• Assist in all aspects of field trips.
• Obtain instructional materials from the central supply/office secretary.
• Write necessary reports and complete required forms.
• Participate in department meetings, trainings, and behavior management meetings as necessary.

• Education. High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience. Fluency in ASL and written English required. Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred. Experience working with deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students desired. Knowledge of students with additional disabilities and ability to teach students on different levels are required.
• Desired or Preferred Qualifications. Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred.

• New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5‑560‑568).
• Candidates must provide three letters of recommendation.

• Contractual employees who work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours a month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. You are responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for medical and prescription coverage. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost.
• You may elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance; premiums for these benefits are paid fully by you.
• Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
