Introduction

The Department of Juvenile Services is searching for a passionate and compassionate education professional to join our team at our local government youth education facility. As a Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in transforming the lives of youth by providing them with the guidance, support, and education they need to overcome obstacles and unlock their full potential. Candidates with secondary education Conditional, Standard Professional, Advance Professional, Advance Professional +30, or Advance Professional +60 Certification in Secondary Education, Library Media Specialist or Librarianendorsement areas are welcome to apply.

Main Purpose of Job

1. Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where youth feel valued, respected, and motivated to learn.
2. Design and deliver engaging lesson plans that cater to the unique needs, learning styles, and abilities of youth, promoting academic growth and personal development.
3. Employ a variety of teaching strategies, methodologies, and technologies to enhance student engagement and facilitate effective learning experiences.
4. Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback and individualized support to promote academic success.
5. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including social workers, counselors, and administrators, to develop holistic plans for student success and address individual challenges effectively.
6. Utilize restorative practices and conflict resolution techniques to foster positive relationships among students and encourage a sense of accountability and responsibility.
7. Act as a mentor and positive role model, demonstrating empathy, patience, and understanding while promoting positive behavior and responsible decision-making.
8. Communicate regularly and effectively with students’ families or guardians, keeping them informed about academic progress, behavior, and any concerns that may arise.
9. Stay updated with the latest educational research, best practices, and interventions for working with youth, continually refining teaching strategies and approaches.
10. Participate in professional development opportunities, workshops, and training sessions to enhance teaching skills and maintain a high level of professional competence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.

Experience:

None.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a MSDE Secondary Education Educators Licensure in Math.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. One year of teaching experience to include internship.
2. Current active certification issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2).
