JOB SUMMARY

Adjunct Instructor of Interpersonal Communication needed. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting in‑person, daytime classes in accordance with Cecil College‑approved syllabi and the stipulations of the Department of English and Humanities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct assigned classes in accordance with the approved master course syllabus and stipulations of the department, including but not limited to administering a final exam or culminating activity, meeting all assigned class times and submitting attendance and grades as per college processes.
  • Utilize the current College course management system. (Canvas)
  • Establish, post and maintain at least one‑half hour before or after class meetings.
  • Adhere to copyright laws provided on the Library site for the college web portal.
  • Regularly and routinely check Cecil College email accounts and respond in a timely manner to emails, including those from the department chair, administrative staff and students. Cecil College email must be used for all email communication with students and any college business.
  • Participate in Cecil College Academic Monitoring.
  • Submit any Incomplete Grade Contracts to the Administrative Assistants in Academic Programs.
  • Support College‑wide testing and actively encourage students to participate.
  • Participate in course assessment and program reports, as needed.
  • Complete required Safe Colleges.
  • Support the mission, vision, and values of the College and the policies of the Board of Trustees.
  • Act in accordance with the letter and spirit of applicable laws, College policies, rules, and expectations, and the terms of the contract for the current academic year.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Speech or a related discipline.
  • Successful college‑level teaching experience in the related field. Only completed applications (resume, letter of application and unofficial transcripts) will receive consideration.
  • Prior teaching experience in a college/university setting, preferred.
  • Must be a resident of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia.
  • Authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship offered.

KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem‑solving, and counseling skills.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e‑mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • LMS experience (e.g., Canvas).
  • Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
  • Availability for in‑person, daytime teaching.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles such as docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.
