Position Overview

The Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance invites resumes for a full‑time, exempt Student Accessibility Specialist position reporting to the Director of Accessibility Services. The applicant will provide academic and personal support and accommodations to undergraduate and graduate students with a wide range of disabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in determining and implementing appropriate accommodations for students with learning, physical, and psychological disabilities.
  • Maintain a caseload of students registered with the Office of Student Accessibility Services and provide case management, including scheduled check‑ins, resource referrals, executive functioning strategy assistance, student outreach, and advisement on university policies. Write appointment/meeting notes in Accommodate in a timely fashion.
  • Manage all quizzes, tests, and related activities for students with disabilities in the Testing Center. Provide support in administering examinations with accommodations and, when required, serve as proctor, reader, or scribe. Supervise student and part‑time employees in the Testing Center.
  • Monitor, assess, and implement developments in available assistive technologies; train students and EAC staff on campus‑used technologies. Oversee creation and organization of accessible materials; produce alternative‑format course materials (textbooks, articles, handouts). Scan materials for conversion to electronic and print formats, proofread reformatted materials, and train students to use accessible tools such as voice recognition and e‑text.
  • Work closely with the Campus Medical Office, Director of Housing, Career Services, and Student Services to ensure accessibility for students experiencing temporary or chronic medical conditions requiring environmental adjustments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
  • Extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, or sitting at a desk.
  • Lifting of items as required.
  • Communication with a variety of constituents internally and externally.
  • Operation of various office equipment.
Licenses / Certifications

Preferred: AHEAD and ADA Training.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in higher education, social work, special education, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience: One to three years of experience working with students with disabilities and providing reasonable accommodations in a higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, FERPA, and other applicable laws related to higher education and disability.
