AdjunctJob Description Position Summary
American Sign Language Interpreting Adjunct faculty teach courses as assigned based on disciplinary needs, educational background, and experience. Faculty develop and/or present course materials as requested by the faculty lead or Assistant Dean of English, Communication, and Languages (ECL) and evaluate student progress in adherence with the core learning outcomes of assigned courses. Adjunct faculty are expected to adhere to ECL and College requirements, work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, and use varying teaching styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.
The position will be teaching in-person classes only.
- Facilitate student mastery of learning outcomes using the most relevant scholarly and professional tools and practices available in the discipline.
- Actively engage students in critical thinking, meta-cognitive processes, and advancement of essential communication skills.
- Infuse multicultural and diverse perspectives into the instructional process as appropriate and conduct classes in a manner that demonstrates respect for individual and cultural differences.
- Model and cultivate open-minded inquiry, an appreciation for diverse perspectives, and creative problem-solving.
- Maintain currency in academic discipline and pedagogy.
- Complete all assigned institutional and professional training.
- Deliver instruction, assess and report student learning, assign grades, and regularly communicate with students in adherence with FCC requirements.
- Adhere to instructional timelines and guidelines and utilize college instructional technology.
- Use only an FCC email account when conducting College business.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience teaching (community college level preferred), mentoring, or training and/or industry related experience in ASL Interpreting or closely related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in ASL Interpreting, ASL Linguistics, ASL Studies, or closely related field.
- Master’s degree in ASL Interpreting, ASL Linguistics, ASL Studies, or closely related field.
- Eight years of professional interpreting experience.
- Three years of interpreting teaching experience.
- Member, Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
