Position: Makerspace Lab Specialist (Grant Funded Position - Contingent II)

Job Summary

The Makerspace Lab Specialist oversees the EIC makerspace facility, fosters innovation, and hands‑on learning. The role ensures smooth operational flow while providing a welcoming environment for guests and managing state‑of‑the‑art makerspace equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Makerspace Equipment Management and Maintenance (25%) – Oversee maintenance, repair, procurement, safety checks, and inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • User Assistance, Training & Safety (20%) – Develop user and safety guides, conduct equipment training, and enforce safety policies.
  • Program Development Implementation (15%) – Design and run innovative workshops and programs, and collaborate with faculty to integrate makerspace resources.
  • Administrative Duties (15%) – Manage reservations, scheduling, usage records, security protocols, and work‑order logs.
  • Point‑of‑Contact for EIC (10%) – Serve as the primary contact for visitors, instruct check‑in processes, and maintain visitor logs with weekly/monthly data reports.
  • Community Outreach and Engagement (5%) – Promote the makerspace through events, workshops, and collaborations.
  • All Other Duties as Assigned – Flexibility to respond to additional tasks.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Technical proficiency in makerspace technologies, tools, and equipment.
  • Understanding of design and fabrication software.
  • Instructional skills to develop and deliver training and workshops.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, risk management, and hazard identification.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer‑service skills.
Minimum Training & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Four years of experience in a customer/consumer‑related field.
Conditions of Employment

Evening and night hours are required. Lead technical support for the EIC is a part of the role.
