Pay: $24.16 per hour
RoleLong Term Substitute Teachers are responsible for teaching, classroom management, and providing equal instructional opportunities. They execute daily lesson plans, maintain a conducive learning environment, and support the school's mission.
Essential Functions- Provide instructional support with daily lesson planning.
- Create a conducive learning environment and utilize classroom time effectively.
- Use a variety of teaching techniques and instructional resources to implement approved curriculum.
- Use evaluation to promote student growth in intellectual, physical, social, and emotional domains.
- Demonstrate fair, firm, and consistent behavior and promote self-discipline among students.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills with students, parents, staff, and community.
- Guide learning toward school system goals and objectives, following board policies and procedures.
- Assist administration and staff in achieving the school's mission with ethical standards.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competencies.
- Supervise students across multiple school settings.
- Maintain appropriate records and monitor equipment, materials, and facility use.
- Ensure regular and predictable attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned by the school principal.
Required Qualifications- Associate’s degree or 60 college credits.
- Knowledge and use of culturally responsive practices.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Capability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Speak in a clear voice with sufficient volume to be heard in conversation and on the phone.
- Travel to school and other local or state locations, sometimes on short notice.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Spend long hours sitting.
- Reach with hands and arms; possess sufficient manual dexterity.
- Move about the work area with sufficient mobility.
- Read, comprehend printed materials and identify objects requiring sufficient vision.
- Hear and understand conversations in person and on the phone, up to 20 feet.
- Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
Moderate noise in classroom, office, or conference room settings with regular conversations, computers, printers, and telephones.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Capability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Possession of a professional teacher certificate issued by MSDE with appropriate content endorsement.
- Familiarity with FCPS policies, goals, and programs.
