Job Description Position Summary

This position provides face‑to‑face, blended (HYR), and online (ONL) instruction in language arts, social studies, science, and/or math to adult learners age 18 and older who seek a high school diploma or want to strengthen basic skills prior to enrolling in post‑secondary education. Course offerings include Adult Basic Education, Non‑Credit Reading, Non‑Credit Math, Pre‑Diploma, GED Math, GED Prep for Science, GED Prep for Social Studies, and GED Prep for Language Arts.

Most classes meet for two days per week at Frederick Community College for three hours each day. Off‑campus classes meet between 4 and 6 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Facilitate student mastery of core learning outcomes using the most relevant and scholarly and artistic tools and practices available in the discipline.

Actively engage students in critical thinking, meta‑cognitive processes, and advancement of critical essential communication skills.

Infuse multicultural and diverse perspectives into the instructional process as appropriate and conduct classes in a manner that demonstrates respect for individual and cultural differences.

Model and cultivate open‑minded inquiry, an appreciation for diverse perspectives, and creative problem‑solving.

Maintain currency in academic discipline and pedagogy.

Submit syllabi and other instructional materials in a timely manner.

Maintain regular communication with students and, when appropriate, use the Student Success Alert notification process.

Assess student work in a timely manner and submit course grades by the posted deadline.

Online course instructors will respond to student email inquiries within 24‑36 hours.

Use the FCC email account provided to communicate with the College, faculty, staff, and students. Share this information with their students.

Required

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline or field.
Experience teaching.

Desired Qualifications

Previous experience in a Department of Labor Adult Education Program.
Successful experience teaching adult learners.
Successful experience teaching online or in a blended learning environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work positively and effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
Successful experience using various online instructional platforms.
