Laurel Hall School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning, behavioral, and emotional needs.

You'll work in a collaborative, supportive environment where education and behavioral health come together to help students succeed. You'll provide individualized instruction, support students in achieving their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, and create a classroom environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive.

What You'll Do
  • Deliver engaging instruction aligned with student IEPs and individual learning needs.
  • Develop lesson plans, assignments, and classroom materials that promote student growth.
  • Monitor and document academic and behavioral progress.
  • Use positive behavior interventions and proactive classroom management strategies.
  • Create a safe, structured, therapeutic, and engaging learning environment.
  • Supervise and provide instructional guidance to Teaching Assistants and Behavioral Specialists.
  • Collaborate with families, educators, behavioral health professionals, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to individualized strategies that support student success.
  • Maintain accurate educational records, grade books, progress reports, and other required documentation.
  • Utilize de-escalation and crisis-intervention strategies when needed.
What You'll Need

Required:
  • Maryland teaching certification in Special Education appropriate for the assignment OR eligibility to pursue certification through an approved pathway.
  • A qualifying bachelor's degree in Education or a related field that prepares you to work with children and adolescents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current BLS/CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Valid driver's license in your state of residence.

Candidates with a qualifying bachelor's degree who do not yet hold a Maryland teaching certificate may be considered for provisional employment and will be required to participate in and successfully complete an approved teacher preparation program to obtain certification.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction, learning theory, developmental reading, educational assessment, or positive behavior supports.
  • Special Education or applicable content-area certification.
