Transportation Engineer I in the Materials and Geotechnical track will support project development, highway infrastructure, asset management, construction projects, and condition assessments. The position includes materials certification reviews, QA/QC testing in the laboratory and field, utilization of test results in pavement and geotechnical design, forensic evaluations, preparation of inspection reports, and repair recommendations under the direction of experienced engineers. The role also involves communication with contractors, attending pre‑construction and progress meetings, and acting as a liaison among District, OMT, and contractors.

• Perform engineering duties in support of project development and asset management.
• Contribute to materials certification reviews and QA/QC testing/evaluation both in laboratory and field.
• Utilize materials test results in pavement/geotechnical design.
• Conduct forensic evaluations of structures and prepare inspection reports.
• Make repair recommendations under the direction of an experienced engineer.
• Communicate project documents, specifications, and drawings to contractors.
• Attend pre‑construction and progress meetings as a liaison among District, OMT, and contractors.

Education – Bachelor’s degree in one of: biological engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, civil engineering technology, geological engineering, materials engineering, metallurgy engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, or welding engineering. Professional Engineer status in Maryland or a comparable state satisfies the education requirement.

Experience – None required.
