Position Summary
The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) seeks a Transportation Engineer V to assist in managing the design, analysis, administration, review, coordination, budget (development and management), and execution of maintenance and engineering projects in the Office of Facilities Maintenance (OFM), Utilities Section at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport and Martin State Airport.
Responsibilities- Manage the design, analysis, administration, review, coordination, budget and execution of maintenance and engineering projects in the OFM, Utilities Section at BWI Marshall and MTN.
- Direct and manage engineering consultants and electrical contractors contracted to investigate, inspect, and evaluate existing conditions related to electrical, control, and metering systems.
- Assign projects to A/E consultants, contractors, and MAA staff based on priorities, schedules, budgets, and regulatory requirements.
- Administer electrical contracts including airfield and terminal electrical maintenance, high‑voltage testing, airfield lighting control systems and power monitoring system service contracts.
- Participate in design, construction management and commissioning of projects at BWI Marshall and MTN.
Education
:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience
:
Five years’ professional engineering experience involving medium‑voltage power systems (33 kV & 15 kV), substations/switch gear, low‑voltage power distribution (480 V), power meters, emergency generators, and UPS.
Preferred Qualifications
:
- Utility substation experience.
- Airport electrical infrastructure.
- Industrial power systems.
- Government infrastructure projects.
Additional Qualifications
:
- Work experience in professional engineering or technical engineering at journey level or above may substitute for required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Master’s degree in engineering may substitute for one year of required experience.
- Professional Engineer registration in Maryland or a comparable state satisfies education requirements.
- Professional Engineer, Land Surveyor or Property Line Surveyor license may be required.
- Engineer‑In‑Training license from the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation may be required.
- Motor‑vehicle operator’s license valid in Maryland may be required for duties involving vehicle operation.
The position is an emergency essential position requiring availability during weather, operational or disaster emergencies and working any shift in a 24‑hour facility.
