Associate LNG Technician (Mechanical) / LNG Technician (Mechanical) / Sr LNG Technician (Mechanical)
Location:
Cove Point facility, Lusby, MD.
- 0‑2 years of mechanical craft experience in an industrial setting – Associate level.
- 3‑5 years of mechanical craft experience – LNG Technician level.
- 5+ years and a similar mechanical or controls background, plus military experience – Senior level.
- For all levels – Applied knowledge of pumps, compressors, gas turbines, motors, vehicles, utilities, piping, tanks, unloading arms, and component parts.
- Full competency in preventive maintenance activities.
- Technical knowledge of mechanical equipment and repair.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel).
- Strong analytical and deductive reasoning skills, oral and written communication, technical writing skills, mechanical skills, and mathematical skills.
- Full ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment or process problems.
- Full ability to conduct site inspections or walk‑downs, including work at heights.
- Ability to maintain drawings and configuration documentation related to mechanical work.
- Ability to guide and train less experienced technicians and operators.
- Contribution to a team‑centric, respectful, and integrity‑based work environment.
- Must have a valid TWIC card or proof of application prior to employment.
- Must score “recommended” on MASS (Plant Maintenance Selection System) for Associate and Mid‑Level positions.
Associate degree preferred. Candidates without an associate’s degree need two years of related progressive work experience.
Preferred DegreesMechanical, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Technology.
Preferred Licenses, Certifications, Qualifications or StandardsFormal mechanical maintenance craft training program completion is a plus. Startup/commissioning experience and familiarity with Maximo and Oracle are pluses.
Responsibilities- Perform all activities with a proactive and preventative maintenance approach based on industry best practices and regulatory requirements (FERC, PHMSA, NFPA, USCG, MDOL, MDE, EPA).
- Recognize and mitigate safety and environmental consequences of actions while maintaining high levels of safety and compliance.
- Support facility operations teams, providing mechanical technical support to align maintenance activities with operational needs.
- Respond to mechanical issues affecting operations, assist with start‑ups, shutdowns, abnormal conditions, and implement reliability improvements.
- Execute hands‑on field work on complex equipment, including troubleshooting, repair, and restoration using hand tools, power tools, precision measurement tools, and lifting/rigging equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance activities: scheduled inspections, lubrication, testing, and parts replacement.
- Handle mooring lines and support marine‑terminal duties for LNG carrier loading/unloading operations.
- Read, interpret, and maintain mechanical drawings and configuration‑control documentation.
- Collaborate with the site Mechanical Engineer to submit drawing and configuration changes per the MOC process.
- Support installation, testing, and startup of new mechanical equipment.
- Attend required on‑site and off‑site training and complete self‑study and qualification programs to maintain certifications and safety training.
- Use CMMS (Maximo and Oracle) to manage assets, work orders, inventory, and scheduling.
- Develop a solid understanding of facility mechanical maintenance practices related to LNG liquefaction, regasification, ship loading, and power generation.
- Lead and direct large‑scale mechanical maintenance projects, providing hands‑on oversight and control for contract personnel.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and executing mechanical maintenance policies and procedures.
- Be on‑call or work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Preferred: Mechanical craft, lead or supervisor experience, journeyman level or higher operations experience in LNG production/processing, power generation, or petrochemical industries. Completion of a formal mechanical maintenance craft training program is a plus. Startup/commissioning experience and Maximo/Oracle experience are additional pluses.
