Overview
The Aircraft Mechanic II is responsible for support of highly sensitive HQ USAF operational plans and safe air transportation for Cabinet Members, senior military leaders, and visiting foreign dignitaries.
ResponsibilitiesPerform scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, repairs, and modifications to aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty. Maintain and repair aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose equipment malfunctions and resolve moderate to complex problems through interpretation of technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturer’s manuals.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting and repair procedures, aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair, and the ability to determine the functionality of complex electrical systems. Conduct inspections including preflight, thru‑flight, basic post‑flight, and phase inspections. Assist aircrew in flight preparation, launch and recover aircraft as required, perform operational checks of all aircraft systems, and maintain aircraft appearance and cleanliness.
Operate all associated ground support equipment and use hand tools, special tools, and fixtures applicable to aircraft. Perform all tasks related to the ground movement of aircraft. Record maintenance actions in aircraft records/web forms and complete associated Maintenance Information System (MIS) entries. Practice good housekeeping, tool control, foreign object damage awareness and prevention, and safety at all times. Perform other duties related to the occupational field as assigned, including temporary duty and travel.
Must be able to work day shift, second shift, third shift, and/or weekend shifts as required.
- A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of aircraft hand tools, special tools, and test equipment.
- Working knowledge of aircraft safety requirements and ability to operate portable firefighting equipment.
- Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications.
- Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance (US citizenship required).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a flightline driver’s license.
- Minimum of four years of working knowledge of helicopter maintenance operations.
- Recent experience on the UH‑1N, Bell
212, or UH‑1. - An FAA Airframe Certificate (highly preferred).
Hourly rate: $51.37 (competitive benefits package)
