Job Description
This role focuses on providing on-site electrical and mechanical inspection services for a multi-building data center campus under construction. The inspector verifies that all work complies with contract documents and applicable standards, supports quality assurance throughout all phases of construction, and helps ensure systems are ready for commissioning and turnover. The position offers a long-term contract-to-hire opportunity on a high-profile data center project.
Responsibilities
+ Perform routine examinations and checks of ongoing construction work across four buildings at different phases of construction to ensure quality installation and execution align with contract documents.
+ Verify that all work in place conforms to contract documents, including required testing and follow-up checks, and confirm that all deficiencies are corrected so the contractor does not build upon or conceal non-conforming work.
+ Assess the general contractor's means and methods for compliance with the most stringent applicable global, national, and local standards, and immediately notify the owner of any deficiencies.
+ Evaluate the final installed mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) equipment and systems to confirm they are at the appropriate level of finish and ready to proceed into the commissioning start-up phase.
+ Evaluate and confirm that proper levels of protection are maintained during construction for equipment and systems.
+ Inspect the installation of MEP equipment, systems, and rough-ins, ensuring equipment and systems are free of defects or damage and installed according to project requirements.
+ Verify that required access to installed products is available, including access to mechanical valves, access doors, and required clearances.
+ Perform visual observations of mechanical and electrical rough-ins to verify quality, conformance, and proper installation practices.
+ Assist in evaluating electrical conduit installations for appropriate support and ensure installations are clean, organized, and tidy.
+ Conduct SCCS reviews, including breaker settings and Arc Flash label reviews, to verify compliance and proper documentation.
+ Conduct NETA testing reviews to confirm appropriate testing has been completed and documented for electrical systems.
+ Conduct FOD (Foreign Object Debris) inspections to ensure clean and safe work areas and protect equipment and systems from damage.
+ Perform turnover services, including verifying that all inspection forms are complete, observation statuses are current, and quality documentation and observations are prepared for turnover to the commissioning team.
+ Conduct final quality verification walks with the owner to confirm systems and installations meet project requirements and are ready for commissioning and operation.
+ Collaborate with construction and commissioning teams to support a smooth transition from construction to commissioning phases.
Essential Skills
+ 5-10 years of experience in construction inspection, quality control, or construction management with a strong focus on electrical and mechanical systems.
+ Proven experience working on data center projects or similarly complex, mission-critical facilities.
+ Strong electrical and mechanical focus with hands-on experience inspecting MEP systems, equipment installations, and rough-ins.
+ Demonstrated ability to verify construction work against contract documents, standards, and specifications.
+ Experience conducting SCCS reviews, including breaker settings and Arc Flash label verification.
+ Experience reviewing NETA testing for electrical systems.
+ Experience performing FOD inspections in active construction environments.
+ Ability to perform detailed visual inspections of mechanical and electrical installations, including conduit support and access requirements.
+ Strong quality assurance and quality control mindset with the ability to identify deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are completed.
+ OSHA 10 certification (minimum).
+ Solid understanding of applicable global, national, and local codes and standards related to mechanical, electrical, and data center construction.
+ Ability to prepare clear, accurate quality documentation and inspection records for turnover.
+ Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with owners, contractors, and commissioning teams.
+ Ability to work independently on a large, multi-building construction site.
