Position: Transportation Engineer I - Structures

Transportation Engineer I – Structures

Grade 14 (8439). Position located in Baltimore City, Hanover or SHA District Offices statewide.

Overview

The State Highway Administration (SHA) is recruiting for the Transportation Engineer I – Structures track. Applicants must apply online.

Nature of Work

Transportation Engineers in this track apply structural engineering theories, principles, and standards to transportation structures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design of new bridges, bridge deck replacements, bridge rehabilitation and repairs, culverts, retaining walls, and noise abatement walls.
  • Performing forensic evaluations of structures, preparing inspection reports, and recommending repairs.
  • Applying structural analysis, steel design, and concrete design coursework.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Applicants within ten (10) months of meeting the minimum qualifications must submit documents with the electronic DTS-1: resume, copy of driver’s license, and copy of transcript.
  • Foreign education evaluation if applicable.
Additional Requirements

Employees may be required to operate a motor vehicle and must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in the State of Maryland. All applicants must list license number and expiration date on the application.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
