An innovative engineering organisation at the forefront of advanced communications technology is seeking a Senior PCB Design Engineer to play a leading role in the design and development of complex, high-performance printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs).
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced PCB design specialist to take ownership of high-speed, multi-layer PCB designs, influence engineering standards and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams developing cutting-edge hardware solutions.
The RoleAs a Senior PCB CAD Engineer, you will serve as the technical lead for PCB design activities, driving best practice across the full product development lifecycle. You'll work on highly complex electronic systems where signal integrity, RF performance and manufacturability are critical to success.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the design and development of complex, multi-layer and high-density PCB layouts.
- Own schematic capture activities and translate system requirements into robust hardware designs.
- Develop HDI stack-up strategies, floor planning and routing for high-performance electronic assemblies.
- Perform design rule checks (DRC) and support Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) analysis.
- Establish and maintain PCB design standards, component libraries and CAD best practices.
- Develop Python-based automation tools to improve PCB design workflows and engineering efficiency.
- Work closely with hardware, RF, mechanical and firmware engineers to resolve integration, EMI and packaging challenges.
- Drive Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Test (DFT) principles throughout product development.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across PCB design activities.
We're looking for an experienced PCB design engineer who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to lead complex hardware development projects.
You should have:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 6+ years of commercial experience designing complex PCBAs.
- Expert knowledge of Cadence Allegro and OrCAD.
- Strong experience with high-speed digital design, RF routing and power electronics.
- Excellent understanding of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques and PCB manufacturing constraints.
- Experience developing engineering automation tools using Python.
- Experience working with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor engineers and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Test (DFT).
- Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) analysis.
- AI or machine learning tools applied to hardware engineering workflows.
- Alternative PCB CAD platforms such as Altium Designer, Siemens Xpedition or KiCad.
- Engineering analysis and design verification tools.
- Competitive salary with performance-related bonus.
- Comprehensive healthcare and insurance package.
- Retirement savings plan with employer contributions.
- Generous paid holiday allowance and flexible time off.
- Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Employee wellbeing programme and support services.
- Modern engineering facilities and collaborative working environment.
- On-site fitness facilities and complimentary refreshments.
- The opportunity to work on technically challenging products alongside highly experienced engineering teams.
