rolethe central fiscal specialist (title
1) has the primary responsibility of managing the financial functions of the designated grant(s), ensuring both financial and programmatic requirements are met. The position may support the grant development and management process, including but not limited to, coordinating the evaluation and reporting associated with grant funding and compliance as it relates to the title 1 grant.
reporting directly to the school administration and system accountability business supervisor, the central fiscal specialist performs the following duties:
financial functions- regularly complete financial transactions for the schools receiving the designated grant(s).
- interpret federal, state, local, and private funding requirements.
- enter, track, and maintain accurate grant data and generate reports as needed or requested.
- develop budgets and accounts for restricted projects and related general fund accounts.
- monitor grant expenditures to ensure that funds are spent in accordance with the approved budget, in a timely manner, and in compliance with the funder's guidelines.
- collaborate with school principals to ensure school based and grant funds are braided to maximize utilization and impact.
- collaborate with central and school staff to ensure grant funds address identified needs and specific purpose of grant.
- collaborate with the sasa budget coordinator and supervisor of sasa budget to meet all fcps policies, regulations, and standard operating procedures that govern fiscal and purchasing procedures.
- submit budget amendments to funding agencies.
- assist with program and financial audits.
- ensure that indirect costs are appropriately budgeted and recovered for restricted projects.
- support the completion of evaluation documents and program progress reports.
- prepare reports and other documents for approval of grant awards by the board of education.
- answer telephone and provides information to stakeholders relative to restricted funds.
- assist with orders utilizing restricted funds.
- uses experience and judgment to resolve problems and prioritize work.
- maintains proficiency in the use of technology to meet administrative needs and trains others as needed.
- assist with project evaluation.
- assist with monitoring project activities to ensure compliance with approved grant applications.
- assist with writing competitive grant applications.
- coordinate with schools, central office, and community partners to determine adequate funding levels in grant budgets.
- recommend adjustments to the fcps grant application guidelines.
- participate in technical assistance meetings at federal, state, and local levels.
- provide technical assistance and training to staff to help understand and meet grant requirements.
- prepare various reports, including financial and programmatic reports and assist with federal or state reporting requirements.
- participate, as requested, on msde review panels, sharing groups, etc.
- regular and predictable attendance.
- monitor funding sources and review publications and websites for funding trends and opportunities.
- ensure that appropriate school and central office personnel are aware of external funding opportunities.
- cultivate and solicit major gifts from local businesses and families to benefit system goals and priorities.

required qualifications education / training / experience- associate's degree with coursework in business administration.
