Position: ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST II

Main Purpose of Job

This position maintains and enforces the Code of Maryland Regulations and county ordinances for food service facilities, public swimming pools, exotic birds/pet stores, and tattoo/piercing shops while performing duties in the Food and Community Protection Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education:

    Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.
  • Experience:

    One year of experience performing inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with environmental health laws and regulations.
  • Notes:
    Candidates may substitute a Master of Public Health or Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Notes:
    Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or specialty codes in the Engineering and Natural Resources field on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with Environmental Health programs such as Well & Septic, Food and Community Protection, Transient Water, Rabies and Plan Review.
  • Experience conducting field inspections and working with contractors and business owners.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Applicants must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists.
  • Employees who require operating a motor vehicle must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license in the State of Maryland.
