The entry-level Recruit opportunity provides consideration for individuals who have no prior experience or certification in the field. This uniformed deputy sheriff is assigned to the Court Security Unit of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office (FCSO). This position is responsible for providing security to the overall County Courthouse including its visitors, County personnel, State personnel, and prisoners in FCSO custody.
Supervision is received from the Court Security Unit Sergeant.

- Minimum age 21 years
- U.S.A. citizenship
- High school graduation or the equivalent
- Current Law Enforcement certification by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC) or a comparable certification from a State outside of Maryland
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
- Ability to effectively access and utilize computerized records systems
- Ability to work independently, to respond appropriately to situations as they occur, and to complete assigned duties with minimal supervision
- Ability to effectively maintain security, control and discipline over individuals, groups and courtroom activities
- Ability to successfully complete and maintain training and qualification requirements of the FCSO
- Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public
- Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with FCSO standards
- Ability to keep physically fit and meet the requirements of the position
- Ability to operate security screening and monitoring equipment
