Job Information
Non-exempt (compensatory and/or overtime eligible); full-time; 40 hours per week;
Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; full-benefits This is a civilian administrative position assigned to the Technology Section and is primarily responsible for overseeing and coordinating Public Information Act (PIA) requests. This position will ensure the timely and accurate processing, and fulfillment of public records requests in compliance with the Maryland Public Information Act (MPIA) and all relevant laws, regulations, and internal procedures.
Supervision is received from the Technology/Training Commander.
NOTE:
The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions, which are calculated per County policy. For external hires, offers are made at the base wage rate.

Essential Duties AndJob Responsibilities
- Serve as the Public Information Act (PIA) facilitator, responsible for reviewing requests and collaborating with internal teams to determine access to public records in compliance with the Maryland Public Information Act (MPIA)
- Receive, review, prepare, edit, and disseminate information in response to MPIA requests submitted by citizens, journalists, and external entities
- Administer the online records request system to review, assign, and fulfill incoming requests
- Utilize internal record management systems to research and locate documents relevant to each request
- Collaborate with other agency sections to identify, review, and compile records
- Monitor mandated MPIA time frames of all aspects of requests
- Identify and redact confidential, privileged, private, or exempt information prior to release as needed
- Consult with the Maryland Attorney General's Office and/or the Frederick County Attorney's Office on complex or sensitive requests
- Compose and/or prepare formal response letters to requestors and others as needed citing MPIA law
- Maintain and update departmental files, records, logs, and tracking spreadsheets to support operational accuracy
