the maryland department of labor, (md labor), division of unemployment insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of ui contributions tax auditor i.

main purpose of jobthe primary objective of this role is to conduct business audits in maryland to verify their adherence to the maryland unemployment insurance law.
position dutiesthis position is the trainee level of work performing audits and investigations that include examining and analyzing the payroll and business records of employers. The audits and investigations are conducted to determine or confirm liability under unemployment insurance law in accordance with federal tax performance standards and field investigation and audit unit policies in the department of labor’s unemployment insurance contribution division, generally accepted auditing standards and practices, governmental auditing standards and practices, and generally accepted accounting principles.
The audits are performed independently or as a member of an audit team.
education: a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.
experience: none.
notes- applicants, who had met the requirements for admission to the cpa examination prior to july 1, 1974, will be considered to have met the education requirement.
- candidates may substitute u.s. Armed forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in internal review classifications or auditing specialty codes in the financial or auditing fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
experience preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial reports and statements.
experience conducting audits and investigations.
licenses, registrations and certificationsemployees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s licence valid in the state of maryland.
special requirementspersonnel employed in this classification will have access to federal tax information and must undergo a state and fbi criminal background check as a condition of employment.
