Summary
Tests mechanical/electromechanicial products and systems within the Mission Energy Lab. Can evaluate and identify issues due to fabrication, operation, application, testing, validation, installation, and repair of mechanical/electromechanical products and systems by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Responsible for testing and evaluating HVAC systems and components.
- Responsible for recording and documenting test data.
- Must have advanced knowledge of refrigeration systems, dehumidifiers, humidifiers and internal components, such as mechanical, electrical and electromechanical components.
- Must have knowledge of different types of refrigerants (R22, R134a, R407c, R410a, R454B).
- Must be able to work and communicate with others; including within the department, inter-departmental and external to the organization.
- Organize and maintain equipment and tools necessary to perform testing and evaluation activities.
- Responsible for aspects of performance and evaluations; none disciplinary.
- Building of testing aparatus including ductwork.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Ability to use all appropriate testing equipment to perform testing, troubleshooting and evaluation.
- Appropriate safety training to perform job functions (NFPA 70E, OSHA or equivalent).
- Minimum 2 years of experience performing HVAC service or testing.
- HVAC knowledge.

- Ability to read and understand English instructions.
- Ability to read and understand bills of material, piping, and electrical diagrams.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
WorkEnvironment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical equipment, high and precarious places, moderate noise levels, office environments, and occasionally to a manufacturing area with higher noise levels and lower air quality. Field support for equipment may also be required, exposing individuals to outside environments commonly encountered in air-conditioning equipment installations.
