Job Description

This Manufacturing Technician position in the Microbiology Division offers an opportunity to work in a laboratory and cleanroom manufacturing environment producing agar-based products that support scientific and healthcare applications. You will operate production equipment, support media preparation, and ensure product quality and compliance while gaining valuable experience in large-scale manufacturing and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). This role is well-suited for individuals seeking a first role in science or manufacturing, with training provided for candidates who have limited experience or a science-related associate or bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

+ Efficiently and safely operate assigned manufacturing machinery in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.

+ Perform simple maintenance on equipment and immediately report malfunctioning machinery to a Supervisor or Lead.

+ Set up and adjust machines to run different product sizes and configurations as required by production schedules.

+ Obtain correct materials for production needs from the warehouse or staging areas and ensure they are staged appropriately for use.

+ Organize production flow to maintain efficient operations, ensuring materials are available, estimating line progress, and scheduling breaks in alignment with the production timetable.

+ Document all work accurately, review personal work for quality and compliance, and monitor products for defects throughout the production process.

+ Assist with inventory-related activities, including counting, tracking, and documenting materials and finished goods as needed.

+ Accurately dispense required additives to media and perform the proper techniques to achieve the correct pH balance.

+ Investigate and help remedy potential production failures or deviations, escalating issues according to established procedures.

+ Follow all written procedures, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Device History Records (DHRs), and report any discrepancies to the Area Supervisor.

+ Perform all work activities in a safe manner and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

+ Immediately report any property damage or safety hazards to the Supervisor, Human Resources, Safety Specialist, or Management.

+ Complete production assignments in a timely manner and in accordance with departmental schedules and priorities.

+ Sign off on DHRs in the appropriate locations and fill in all required information in accordance with SOPs.

+ Support general production and staging activities, including production support tasks that contribute to smooth daily operations.

Essential Skills

+ Experience or strong interest in manufacturing, production, or a related hands-on environment.

+ Ability to work in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and follow detailed procedures and documentation requirements.

+ Capability to comprehend and communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally.

+ Ability to perform basic math calculations accurately for measurements, additions, and adjustments.

+ Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push or pull wheeled kettles weighing up to approximately 600 pounds.

+ Ability to stand for sustained periods of time, approximately 10 hours per day, in a production environment.

+ Ability to see and distinguish colors to support quality checks and media preparation.

+ Comfort working with production equipment, including setting up, operating, and making basic adjustments.

+ Attention to detail for accurate documentation, quality checks, and compliance with SOPs and DHR requirements.

+ Commitment to following safety procedures and consistently using required personal protective equipment.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.

+ Science-related education such as an associate (AS) or bachelor's (BS) degree in a scientific discipline is welcome and can be considered for candidates with limited experience.

+ Willingness to learn and be trained in large-scale manufacturing, kit production, and GMP practices.

+ Ability to work effectively as part of a production team and collaborate with supervisors, leads, and colleagues.

+ Strong organizational skills to manage production flow, materials, and documentation.

+ Problem-solving mindset to help investigate and address potential production failures or equipment issues.

+ Reliability and punctuality to meet departmental schedules and production timelines.

Work Environment

This role is based in a laboratory and cleanroom manufacturing environment focused on microbiology and agar media production.
